She grows what she sells at Flower Girl Farms in Arroyo Grande: proteas, pincushions, and whatever else the Central Coast lets her get away with. The clip above is Melissa doing the thing she does: taking stems she grew and turning them into something for a person standing in front of her. That’s the whole model. No cold chain, no middle layer. A farmer, her flowers, and whoever showed up.

The photos below are from the farm itself. The proteas are the reason people drive out: king proteas the size of a fist, cream ones with collars like torn paper, grevillea going off like fireworks. Then the rows of dahlias, and Melissa’s table under its umbrellas, which is the best kind of shop there is, because the field is right behind it.
